Lopez has spent nearly $870,000 through her campaign account and a committee supporting her, as of Oct. 31, about 14 times more than her competitor, in a bid to keep her seat.

Lopez had pushed a bill that benefited a school bus traffic camera provider last year, and within months of the bill’s passing, the Tributary found that the company, BusPatrol, had hired her son. Lopez did not disclose this information and voted for another bill BusPatrol benefited from earlier this year.

Lopez told the Miami Herald editorial board she didn’t reach out to the general counsel until after The Tributary contacted her. The Miami Herald rescinded its endorsement of Vicki Lopez last week.

The Tributary also reported that Lopez’s campaign and committee had received $11,000 from A Stronger Florida, a committee BusPatrol has contributed more than half a million to in the last two years.

During her 2022 election run, Lopez faced little scrutiny, outside of passing mentions about her past. She went on to become her district’s first Republican legislator in nearly two decades.

This time, Lopez had been endorsed by the local teacher’s union, Florida Chamber of Commerce, Florida Education Association, Florida Realtors PAC, AFS, among many others.\

As of 9:03PM ET, Tuesday, Lopez won about 55% of the vote.

HD 113 spans a coastal, center-east portion of the county, covering Key Biscayne and parts of Coral Gables and Miami.
